Abstract

This research presents the development and validation of an instrument for the
measurement of self-esteem with Mexican children. To this end, a total of 1007
children in public and private schools in the city of Puebla (México) participated in
the study. A procedure of factor analysis varimax of principal components was
employed to determine the factors in the instrument. Ten different factors were
identified. In adittion to the validation process, the results of its application are
presented. These showed significant differences in terms of school type as text, as
well as the importance of self-esteem for school achievement is discussed.
