Digital preservation policies
The Revista de Investigación Educativa (RIE) guarantees the digital preservation of its contents through publication on the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, an editorial management system developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) aimed at ensuring the long-term conservation of scientific publications.
All the issues and articles of the journal are hosted in the DIGITUM institutional repository of the Universidad de Murcia (https://digitum.um.es), which reinforces its visibility, stability and availability over time.
The journal also applies the following complementary strategies to preserve its digital content:
- Assignment of a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) to each article, managed through Crossref, which guarantees its persistent identification and facilitates its location, even if the URL changes.
- Compatibility with distributed preservation systems such as LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe), which allows content to be stored in multiple trusted libraries and servers, if these services are enabled by the institution.
- Adherence to the OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative - Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) protocol, which allows for the automated collection of metadata by academic repositories and indexes, improving their interoperability and global accessibility.
RIE also encourages self-archiving by authors in institutional, thematic or personal repositories as an additional strategy for the preservation, circulation and democratization of scientific knowledge.
