Code of ethics

The Revista de Investigación Educativa is based on the work carried out by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), while also incorporating guidelines derived from its own reflections, based on its editorial experience, its commitment to the academic community and its vocation to care in the processes of scientific editing.

1. General principles and editorial structure

Website: The RIE website clearly and accessibly reflects its editorial activity, promoting transparency.

Editorial commitment: The journal combines scientific rigor with ethical management, respectful of people, their time and working conditions, promoting sustainable and collaborative editorial dynamics.

Diversity and non-discrimination: The journal reaffirms its commitment to non-discrimination on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, origin, ethnicity, language, functional diversity, age, religion or any other condition.

Inclusive language: The use of inclusive and respectful language is promoted in all published articles.

Access: Access to all content is free of charge (diamond open access).

Archive: All content is hosted in the DIGITUM institutional repository, guaranteeing its digital preservation.

Sources of income: The only source of funding for the Revista de Investigación Educativa is AIDIPE. Inter-University Association for Pedagogical Research.

Advertising: The Revista de Investigación Educativa announces the opening and closing of each issue as well as its publications through its social networks: Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn. Likewise, each issue is disseminated on platforms such as Aula Magna 2.0.Revistas Científicas de Educación en Red.

2. Responsibilities of the editorial team

Governing body: The Revista de Investigación Educativa has an editorial team made up of experts in the topics covered by the publication. Gender equity in its composition is guaranteed and its international character is encouraged. Full names and affiliations are available on the website.

Peer review process: Details are available on the website. Short review times are not guaranteed; the deadlines indicated are estimates.

Confidentiality: The identity of reviewers and manuscript information is protected throughout the editorial process.

Conflicts of interest: Authors, reviewers and editors must declare any possible financial, personal or academic conflicts. Anyone who identifies a situation that compromises their impartiality must abstain from participating.

Transparency and consent in AI translation: If an article is translated using artificial intelligence, the authors' consent is requested and a visible note is included in the translated version. The importance of consulting the original version is emphasized.

Acknowledgement of reviewers: Revista de Investigación Educativa values the work of reviewers as an essential contribution to scientific development and to ensuring editorial quality. The journal will consider appropriate mechanisms for public and private recognition, always respecting the principles of confidentiality of the evaluation process.

3. Responsibilities of reviewers

Impartiality: Reviews should be conducted objectively, based on scientific and methodological criteria.

Confidentiality: All information related to the manuscript must be treated as confidential.

Conflicts of interest: Reviewers must abstain from participating if they detect a conflict that may affect their judgment.

Punctuality: Compliance with agreed deadlines is expected. If the review cannot be completed, it is recommended that the editor be notified immediately.

Ethical responsibility: Any suspicion of malpractice must be communicated to the editorial team in a responsible manner.

4. Authorship responsibilities

Authorship rights and licenses: The policies are explained in the guidelines for authors. The journal allows self-archiving according to the principles of open science.

Authorship and responsibility: The persons signing an article must have contributed significantly to the conception, design, execution or interpretation of the study. The journal recommends the use of the CRediT taxonomy (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) to declare the types of contribution (From May 15, 2025, this recommendation will become an obligation). In cases of co-authorship, all authors are expected to approve the final version submitted and take responsibility for its content.

Originality: Manuscripts must be unpublished. Ideas or data from third parties must be properly cited. Officially licensed anti-plagiarism tools are applied.

Data sets: The Revista de Investigación Educativa, on its path towards Open Science, is committed to the deposit of research data sets, in line with all the policies, mandates and initiatives that reveal the value of research data, as well as the importance of being able to share and reuse it. To contribute to this openness, it is recommended that the data sets used for the preparation of the article be deposited in repositories that comply with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), allowing them to be consulted, shared and reused. Examples of recommended repositories: Zenodo, Figshare and Dataverse.

Methodological rigor: The Revista de Investigación Educativa encourages and promotes methodological rigor in research. To this end, there are different guidelines for qualitative, quantitative or mixed studies, as appropriate. These guidelines are available in the “Submissions” section of the journal's website, which also specifies the characteristics for the preparation of articles based on the development of instruments, as well as articles based on systematic reviews. Compliance with these guidelines will be considered in the editorial review process.

Author fees: The Revista de Investigación Educativa is a “diamond” open access publication that does not charge fees for the submission and publication of papers (NO-APC).

4. Prevention and treatment of malpractice

The Revista de Investigación Educativa will take reasonable measures to prevent, identify and address possible malpractice in research and in the editorial process. These include, among others, plagiarism, manipulation of data, images or citations, fabrication of results, misuse of artificial intelligence tools in the writing of manuscripts, as well as any ethical non-compliance in research involving human subjects.
