Abstract

The Roman Empire Limes and its variations at the oriental frontier. The research on the «limes»: from Mouterde and Poidebard to Fergus Millar. Our findings in the limes line: the roman way, the «Castra Caeciliana», the defensive structure. Roman towns and town cemeteries. The limes as obstacle and as bridge. The river-limes as a way. The Éufrates-limes people, a sedentary people? Land-people and greek-culture. Romans and parthians and land-people. Christendom at the limes: monasteries and eremitories. From roman to islamics times: continuities, outbreaks and new syntheses.
