Abstract
A study is made of the most important place names of the area (Manbiy, Chazzaa, Parbüs or Parabülus) together with historical, geographical and linguistica1 data. Importance is given to the narrations of the Arab authors on the subject and also the popular traditions of the actual habitants of the area. The conclusions reached are: the identification of Hierápolis with Manbifr; Hierápolis is not situated in Europos; and the localization of Caeciliana in the actual Chazzaa.Downloads
