Reflections on a trip to the Sacred riverbank of Lugo
Abstract
Last Holy Week, heaven allowed us to visit the Ribera Sacra de Lugo. This seems easy to say and do, but many tests have to be passed. And the first is to find out that the issue exists. Also by pure chance we had learned half a dozen years ago that the Ribera Sacra is in Orense and there we went and toured it all with great relish and delight. Enjoying the always attractive visit of San Pedro de Rocas, the monasteries of Xunqueira d'Espadañedo, Castro Caldelas, San Estevo de Ribas do Sil, Santa Cristina and taking two or three maps of the entire circuit perfectly presented throughout the province of Orense. But we returned home wondering if the Ribera Sacra did not also have something on the other shore, that is, in the province of Lugo. We had to wait years to find out, by pure coincidence, that there was also a Ribera Sacra in Lugo. And we were also informed that you could not see on your own but that you had to call certain travel agencies that provided guides, etc. etc. Once all obstacles were overcome and with the good weather in our favor, we entered Galician lands in Holy Week 2015, taking Monforte de Lemos as our first point of reference. Things have gone well for us and in eight days and seven nights we have been able to see 36 churches with their corresponding geographical settings, we have been able to review our information on the subject and we have raised a series of reflections that we offer below
