Abstract

This article presents the results of a non exhaustive review of different authors´ opinions, referred to learning evaluation in Distance Education, mainly online evaluation. Definitions of evaluation and the importance of its purposes, formatives and summatives, are considered. From the affirmation that in any instructional modality it is necessary a close relation among teaching, learning, and evaluation, some definitions are presented to facilitate the understanding of those processes online. More attention is paid to online evaluation characteristics, and suggestions for designing and marking evaluation assignments on line are taken into account. Aspects related to automatization, and tools for evaluation are included.
