El concepto de barbarie en la Hispania visigoda
Abstract
(...) De una manera tan abiertamente peyorativa, resumía Luis Cabrera de Córdoba a principios del siglo XVII, el significado de la Edad Media europea y el valor moral de sus historiadores. Hoy sabemos que tales palabras se inspiraban más en los prejuicios del humanismo, que en el conocimiento exacto de la realidad medieval. Sin embargo, la admonición continúa resultando en especial hiriente, dada la ligereza con que se usa el concepto de barbarie. Tildar de "bárbaros" a escritores como .lordanes. Procopio ó Agathías (todos y sin excepción ardientes defensores de la Recuperatio imperi justinianea), aparece no sólo como una grave injusticia sino también como un flagrante contrasentido. (...)
