La Fortuna de los romanos
Abstract
Los textos de los escritores latinos con sus lugares comunes sobre la Fortuna soberana, inconstante dueña del mundo, nos han acostumbrado a ver en esta diosa una divinidad abstracta. De ahí nace la idea de que la diosa Fortuna fue en Roma la personificación del destino móvil, caprichoso e incierto que gobierna individuos y naciones. A veces funesta, a veces favorable, Fortuna gobernaba la vida de los hombres y las naciones; sin apariencia de regla lógica o moral otorgaba éxito o infligía tremendos reveses. De la diosa Madre que probablemente fue en sus comienzos nada quedó. Las páginas que siguen pretenden bucear en la antigua imagen.
