Sobre el contexto literario-teológico de los columbarios de La Rioja
Abstract
In this paper an attempt is made to give a reasonable explanation for the so-called «dovecots» (
columbaria) in caves destined to the Christian cult for the monacal communities during the Early Middle Ages in La Rioja (Spain). In the illuminated manuscripts of the «Commentary on the Apocalypse», by Beatus of Liebana, there are depicions of altars which incorporate doves representing the souls of the dead in Christ.
