Abstract

The platonic biography of Diogenes Laertius (III, 1-46) is full of stories and anecdotes coming from the oral tradition. This essay deals fragments from the oral tradition in which Diogenes Laertius exposes the paternal genealogy of Plato with names such as Codrus, Poseidon and Apollo. The study of these names in the platonic text let us show a symbolic meaning to the references of Diogenes Laertius and confirms the platonic obsession towards a primitive monarchy,

basileia, and an absolute respect towards the original laws founded by the tradition and transmitted by the divinity.
