Abstract

This paper tells us about the reasons which guided us to choose a qualitative methodology —case studies— as a fundafollows: (a) to enquire whether two 8th grade pupils (in a school and at a determined classroom) made use of mental images or not when they solved mathematical problems, or when they had to find a meaning for the mathematical questions they were asked, and also, (b) to analyze the role played by the teacher in this mathematical activity. To arrange all the elements used in getting the information and to give answers about the way that the analysis have been done is the most important aim of this article.mental methodology in our research which purposes were as
