When Is It Legitimate To Exhibit A Cadaver? Bodies: From Bodies To Objects
Abstract
This article critically analyzes the Bodies exhibition and the phenomenon of cadaver plastination. Through a philosophical, artistic, and ethical reflection—both academic and personal—the text questions the aestheticization of the dead body and the transformation of human remains into exhibition objects. It explores questions regarding the moral legitimacy of such displays, their relationship with art, science, and spectacle, as well as the commercialization of bodies. Additionally, it problematizes the notion of authenticity and the extreme objectification of plastinated cadavers in a contemporary context marked by the denial of death and the spectacularization of the macabre.
