Abstract

This editorial opens the first issue of 2026 of Cuadernos de Psicología del Deporte, an edition structured in three parts that pays tribute to the legacy of Dr. María Teresa Anguera Argilaga. The first part, on Sport Psychology, includes studies by Carvalho et al. (pre-competitive anxiety in dual-career athletes), López et al. (psychological skills in South American figure skaters), and Lobo (Philippine traditional dances and cultural competence). The second part, on Sport Sciences, features research by Silvério et al. (space and timing in Shotokan Karate), Monteiro et al. (preparation-performance coherence in women's basketball), and Sandoval et al. (coach qualification in Colombia). The third part opens the special issue "The Scientific Legacy of María Teresa Anguera Argilaga", with four articles that apply and refine her methodology: Fernández-Sante et al. (centre forwards at UEFA EURO 2020), Maneiro et al. (corner kicks), Rodríguez Medina et al. (correction of polar coordinate analysis), and the posthumous work by Anguera et al. (sequential analysis in fencing). The issue opens with the laudatio by Marta Castañer, the last major academic tribute received by Dr. Anguera in her lifetime. The editorial invites the scientific community to contribute throughout 2026 to this open special issue, which projects a living and fundamental body of work for observational methodology and sport sciences.
