Abstract

This paper aims to present an experience with Early Childhood Education students of the application of a technique for knowledge representation: Pathfinder Associative Networks. Using this technique, graphical representations of the cognitive structure of the students are obtained out of the similarity between the concepts involved in a given area. We have used the experimental software GOLUCA, which allows us to obtain data, create graphical representations, spot the most important concepts and evaluate their complexity and coherence numerically. The experiment was carried out with a group of 23 students aged 5 and 6 years old, and it allowed the representation of their cognitive structure before and after instruction in the field of knowledge of "Mass Media". We believe that because of its ease of use, the software used allows access to the knowledge of the cognitive structure of very young children or individuals with limited cognitive abilities, and it becomes an interesting research assistant in the area.
