Abstract

The impact of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) in Higher Education has a result the widespread use of Virtual Campuses. Virtual Campuses are complex web applications used by universities to facilitate their educational processes, research and management. So, Virtual Campuses have become a natural extension of traditional universities placed in the Digital Information Society. This monograph issue of RED Journal presents representative works of the international community of professionals around the Virtual Campuses, meeting at the III International Conference on Virtual Campuses held in Oviedo on 25 and 26 January 2012. This conference have served to consolidate Higher Education Network of Virtual Campuses (RUCV). Therefore, in this Special Issue gather relevant papers on the state of the art of Virtual Campuses, both Spanish and international, with subjects related to methodologies, technologies, social networks and experiences on accesibility, internationalization and multiculturalism. These contributions are of unquestionable quality and importance to the reflection on the virtualization of teaching-learning processes mediated by technologies in Higher Education.
