Abstract

This article originated in research conducted by the research group "Learning, citizenship and subjectivity" of the Graduate Program in Public Policy and Human Formation of the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We applied a questionnaire at twenty-nine mathematics teachers from public school, to know how these teachers are aware of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and use them in their teaching. We observed, among other things, that all have a computer at home, according to public policy developed by the State Government of Rio de Janeiro, with Internet access. The vast majority emphasizes the application of ICT in education, saying that the use of them arouses students' motivation for learning, improving responsiveness of the same content. We conclude with the presentation of alternatives for continuing teacher education that promotes the integration of ICT into the school routine.
