Abstract
Cuando escribe su "Regula inonachorum", San Isidoro tiene conciencia de no estar haciendo algo fundamentalmente nuevo. Es cierto que la escribe pensando en unos monjes concretos, los que viven con toda probabilidad en el monasterio Honorianensed); responde por lo mismo a unas e.xigencias bien determinadas y a unas circunstancias socio religiosas precisas, lo que tiene su importancia a la hora de saber su propósito. Sin embargo, Isidoro en su Regla sigue básicamente en la linea de la ya larga trayectoria de la tradición monástica occidental, a la que hace referencia desde el comienzo de la Regla, demostrando además conocer bien dicha tradición).
