La signification du Livre IX des ‘Etymologies’: érudition et actualité
Abstract
Depuis une trentaine d'années, la recherche isidorienne s'est efforcée de présenter le Sévillan sous les traits d'un homme préoccupé des problès de son temps et soucieux d'agir sur ses contemporains. Ainsi, à l'image de l'érudit compilateur s'ajoute celle de l homme d'action ouvert aux influences et aux besoins de son époque. C'est cette image d'Isidore que je voudrais mettre à l'épreuve, non certes pour la nier, mais plutôt pour en préciser les lignes, à partir d'un f ragment de son oeuvre immense, le livre IX des Etymologies.
