Abstract

Cipriano de Cartago

, in his work De habitu virginum, stressed the traditional view of women as was characteristic in the Roman society of the 3rd century. On the other hand he permits a glimpse into the significant place of women —especially virgins— in the Church and encourages them to exercise their influence on the Christian society. Cyprian, using as a base the doctrine of Paul and Tertullian, distance himself from the usual misogyny of his time and contemplates women from a more positive perspective, as fully responsible human beings in the private and personal confines.
