Abstract

After reviewing the research literature related to low academic performance, specially in the spanish school system, the empirical study presented here tries to provide some evidence about factors associated to low academic performance in compulsory secundary education.

The main purpose of the study is to identify a linear equation to predic which group (low performance group or medium-high performance group) would belong to any subject with similar characteristics to our sample subjects. A seven step protocol is followed to reach the equation.

The statistical analysis was mainly carried out by discriminant analysis but in some concrete steps regression analysis was also done.
