Abstract

An educational innovation through a video game implemented in a teacher training course is presented in this paper. The video game was applied as a Digital Educational Resource with the main focus on the development of the ICT skills required for 21st century future teachers who are immersed. in a global, technological society with Knowledge Management characteristics. The teaching experience was developed with students of a teacher education (future teachers of secondary education), for Informática Educativa, a subject which is part of Pedagogy in Mathematics and Computing Studies course. The experience consisted in designing educational projects that included videogames through Project Based Learning. As a result of this teaching practice, the actual experience and a general outline of each of the educational projects are shown. The projects focused on the achievement of transversal objectives in the current curriculum in our country and are related to the development of ICT skills in 21st century youths. Besides, learning styles were analyzed to relate the observed inter and intrapersonal students’ skills in the course. The software used is KODU Game Lab, a visual programming language with simple and intuitive programming environment. We can agree that through learning of visual programming, future teachers strengthened certain competences such as: discussion, dialogue and collaborative work, used to build the game through storyboard design, game building (programming) and results sharing.
