Résumé

This paper analyses the terminology used to refer to manufactured goods in two 18th century glossaries, namely, the Explication de plusieurs termes de botanique & d’agriculture… by the French botanist and agronomist Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1780) –which opens the second volume of his work La Physique des arbres (1758)– and its translation into Spanish Explicación de varios términos de botanica, y de agricultura by Casimiro Gómez Ortega (1741-1818), a translator and also a botanist. The first step was to identify the terms used to refer to manufactured goods in each glossary and to classify them into different semantic fields. Next, a lexicographical study was carried out regarding the occurrence of such terms in two dictionaries of the same period of time ; this provided a better understanding both of the purpose of the glossaries and of the contribution that Duhamel and Gómez Ortega made in relation to the creation of new specialised lexicon.
