Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the different Spanish translations of the sonnets by Louise Labé. As such, the study takes into account, on the one hand, the difficulties in understanding and interpreting a text from 1555 which is representative of the Lyonnais school of poetry and, at the same time, albeit with certain nuances, also belongs to the French Petrarchan current; and secondly, the thesis defended by Mireille Huchon concerning the authorship of the work attributed to Labé, because of the potential importance for the translation task. Huchon defends that, in fact, it was not Labé who wrote the texts, but a cenacle of poets led by Maurice Scève. This question demonstrates the need to distinguish between the lyric subject present in the text and the historic subject who actually composed it.
