Abstract

The objectives of this study are to review the literature on tourism in Catalonia and explore the differences between journals of tourism and other disciplines. Using a bibliometric and content analysis, we give an account of scientific production from several angles: distribution of production among authors, institutions and journals, types of journal, themes and regions researched, and scientific disciplines employed. One conclusion is the important role played by journals in fields other than tourism, especially geography, in the spread of knowledge of tourism.
