Abstract

The aim of this paper is to determine which variables affected access to teacher training courses among candidates applying to study at Teacher Training Schools in Cordoba for the academic curricula of 1903, 1914 and 1931, such as gender, geographical origin and social background. The study was performed on a sample of 618 subjects, thereby allowing for the generalisation of findings that underscore gender as the most influential variable in terms of student access to these courses. Geographical origin and social background, on the other hand, do not constitute decisive factors when it comes to explaining the different ways of accessing Teacher Training Schools for the academic curricular analysed. Ultimately, this paper lays the foundations for subsequent historic research that aims to use quantitative methodology to present its findings from a different perspective.
