Abstract

The proposed work analyses the role of the teacher in rural schools in Andalusia, concentrating on the attitudes that exist and the training he has received to enable him to carryout his work in the environment of multigrade classes in primary education. The results of the investigation show the evolution of the prejudices the teacher has suffered in this type of school and how they are tending to change with the passage of time. The non-existence of adequate initial training for the environment of the rural school is also confirmed, and hence not providing the educational legacy to work in schools which are only enforced stepping stones for most teachers. Furthermore, there is a need to compliment initial training with in-situ instruction when first experiencing the special situation of the rural school.
