Partnership and socioeducational needs of senior citizens´ residences in Murcia, Spain
Abstract
This article is the result of a research study which addresses the reality of the elderly from a socioeducational approach. Senior citizens are an increasingly important part of the population in social policy and this study focuses on their socioeducational needs and social participation through partnership, taking Senior Citizens´ Residences as a main reference. We used a qualitative methodology, as this allows us to get close to and interpret the reality of the elderly from their own point of view and experiences. Thirty participants were chosen and interviewed in depth. The interviews were then categorised and analysed. Results show the high motivation and willingness of participants to take part in social, cultural and educational activities to the extent that these meet their needs, which in turn implies that the programmes and services designed for them originate from their own needs and requirements.
