Abstract

The present work analyzes the use of the song as a didactic tool in the field of Primary Education, for which a study was carried out with a total of 128 general teachers of Primary Education (22.7% women) active in the Community. of Castilla y León in Spain, and without a specific musical training. The fundamental objective was to know the musical tools that they use in their classes (especially the song) according to the years of teaching experience. The main results show that music as a transversal tool is highly valued by generalist teachers in line with other research, although there are relevant differences in the use of the song according to the years of teaching experience, with veterans being the ones who use music the most. same. Finally, the causes that may have influenced the decrease in the use of songs as a didactic resource –traditionally considered highly useful and effective– are analyzed and some measures are proposed to enhance it.

Author Biographies

Ignacio Nieto-Miguel, University of Burgos

Professor at the Faculty of Education of the University of Burgos. He has a Master's degree in Primary Education and a doctorate in Musicology. He has a higher degree in piano and is professional in singing, harpsichord and music theory. He combines his teaching work with the direction of the orchestra of the University of Burgos. His main lines of research are: music as an educational tool in primary education, vocal and choral education in the classroom, and musical heritage and education. He has given conferences, courses and concerts in Europe, America and Africa. He has been a professor at the University of Valladolid and at the International University of Valencia. He is a member of the GIR "Artistic Education: processes, spaces and practices" and the GID "Inclusive Design for Training in Primary Education".

Francisco José, Pontifical University of Salamanca

Professor of Artistic Education at the Faculty of Education of the UPSA. Musician and composer. Specialized in music education, new technologies applied to artistic education and music as a teaching resource in the classroom. Since 1999, he has been teaching subjects related to music education and music didactics both in the teaching degrees and in the specific mention of music education and the master's degree in teacher training at the UPSA Faculty of Education. It has in its production almost a dozen musicals of its own composition that it has represented in different Spanish and foreign locations. Composer and librettist of the zarzuela "Salamanca o la singular verbena del Paseo de la Estación", the first in the costumbrista genre since the 1980s. Doctor of Musicology from the University of Salamanca, he is also the author of numerous articles in scientific journals as well as several books with the activity of Salamanca at the beginning of the 20th century as a backdrop.

José David, Pontifical University of Salamanca

Professor in Charge of the Chair at the Pontifical University of Salamanca. Doctor of Psychology. Master in Multivariate Statistics. Degree in Psychology Specialized in methodology and statistics applied to the social sciences. He teaches Psychology, Methodology and Statistics in the Degrees of Journalism, Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and Public Relations and Marketing and Communication in the Faculty of Communication and in the Master's Degree in Family Counseling and Mediation. He is accredited as Contracted Professor Doctor and has a six-year research period. He belongs to two research teams (UPSA and USAL). His main lines of research are health and adolescence, quality of life in the elderly, psychology and religion. He has numerous publications in scientific journals, presentations and communications at national and international scientific conferences.

Raquel María Guevara Ingelmo, Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca

Raquel Mª Guevara Ingelmo has a doctorate in Human and Social Sciences, a degree in Educational Psychology and a Master's degree in Primary and Early Childhood Education. It belongs to the area of ​​didactics and school organization. Currently, Vice Dean of Educational Innovation in the Faculty of Education of the Pontifical University of Salamanca. Teacher at the University since 2010 in the Degrees of Primary and Early Childhood Education, in the Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, in different Master's degrees in the educational field and Postgraduate Seminars. His main lines of research are education and health, with various scientific publications in high-impact journals. Accredited in the figures of Professor Hired Doctor and Professor of Private University by ANECA and ACSUCYL. It has a section of research or six-year term. He has participated in numerous national and international congresses and belongs to 3 research teams. She worked in the school environment as a counselor and as a teacher of Primary Education. For 7 years she was coordinator of the Municipal School of Health of the Hon. Salamanca City Council.
