Análisis de las consecuencias y del impacto de la desindexación del International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health de Web of Science en el área de la salud pública, ambiental y ocupacional

Resumen

En marzo de 2023, la desindexación de la mega-revista International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH), e-ISSN: 1660-4601 —segunda en producción mundial en acceso abierto en 2022— de Web of Science (WoS) sacudió a la comunidad científica. Siendo WoS considerada una “lista blanca” de revistas por instituciones evaluadoras y financiadoras, la desindexación de IJERPH afecta a miles de investigadores del área de la salud pública, ambiental y ocupacional, quienes, atraídos por su posición en el primer cuartil (Q1) del ranking según el Journal Impact Factor (JIF) publicado anualmente en el Journal Citation Reports (JCR) de Clarivate, y aprovechando ventajas tales como un moderado cargo por procesamiento de artículo, una alta velocidad de respuesta y una baja tasa de rechazo, publicaban cerca del 20 % de la producción total del área indexada en WoS en dicha revista. Este trabajo analiza las consecuencias de la desindexación de IJERPH de WoS en la dinámica de publicación del área, haciendo especial hincapié en la producción e impacto de sus investigadores, y muestra que las publicaciones no se redistribuyeron en otras revistas del área —perdiendo más del 30 % de su producción indexada en WoS en 2023— ni en mega-revistas de disciplinas afines o multidisciplinares. Más aún, aquellos investigadores que publicaban asiduamente en la revista, redujeron a la mitad no solo su producción indexada en WoS en 2023, sino también su posicionamiento en revistas pertenecientes al JIF Q1 del JCR 2022.
