Abstract

It is well-known that Cavafy, following a literary tradition from Dante to Tennyson, has reelaborated the homeric Odyssean motif in his masterpiece “Ithaca”. However, before this poem, the Ulysses theme has already been treated by the alexandrian poet in two until recently unpublished texts: the poem “Second Odyssey” and the philological essay “The End of Odysseus”, both written in 1894. This paper gives a spanish translation of both cavafi an texts and analizes Cavafy’s version of the Odyssean adventure in “Second Odyssey” in conexion with his essay on the ending of Odysseus’s life.
