Abstract

My aim is to study Cavendish's objections to experimental philosophy from a non-dichotomical perspective. This will reveal that, far from establishing a confrontation between contemplative and experimental philosophy, reason and sensation, nature and art, the author poses an organized cooperation between these aspects. Cavendish's position can be adequately understood if it is taken into account that her epistemology is rooted in her metaphysics, in which the degrees of matter and the different living beings that are part of the universe occupy a certain place and fulfill a certain function, forming an organic and harmonious whole.
