Abstract

After determining exactly the scope of Adorno’s criticism towards Sartre’s engaged literature, this article brings it back to what they share in their respective perceptions of the sociopolitical and cultural reality in the XXth-century: failure of the individual and crise of reason. In looking for a way out without renouncing to their historical ideals, both philosophies, Sartre’s and Adorno’s, do differ in respect to the emancipator power of art. But our proposal here is to prove that each one finally aproaches to the other, against their initial opposition in relation to the language of meanings and the one of images.
