Abstract

This paper explores, starting from certain reflections of Popper, the role of the Embryology in Kant’s transcendental program. Specifically, this work examines the meaning of the biological terms «epigenesis», «preformation», «generatio aequivoca» («spontaneous generation») and «evolution» in Kant’s intellectual development, as well as its epistemological implications. In fact, Kant used these terms as biological analogies to illustrate the different epistemological positions of Locke, Leibniz and Hume, and form a contrast to his own point of view: a kind of epigenetic-system of reason.
