Abstract

This paper starts from the complexity of the arendtian conception of the action and tries to show it as a point in which different and heterogeneous lines and concerns converge. In On revolution Arendt faces up to the following dilemma: in on the one hand, the contingent, unprecictable and spontaneous character of action disables it for creating lasting institutions and on the other lasting institutions seem to set limits to any future action if we understand it as an act of interruption or as a new beginning. And in the course of the analysis of this dilemma, the article tries to show that in this work Arendt also thinks on revolution as an interruption of the modern processes and the automatism started by human action but runnning out of control.
