Abstract

We seek to analyse the connection between the question of nihilism and the fact that the theoretic conception of the aesthetic experience is carried out, from the beginning if its constitution as an autonomous discourse, on the basis of a metaphysical principle derived from the pursuit of basic essentials and from the prevalence of subjectivism. Our aim is to remark on how the difficulties of the classical aesthetic doctrine derive from the difficulty to respond, by means of that principle, to the theoretic demands derived from the contact with Art. And all this through the confirmation of the Aesthetics' constant dilemma between the general conceptualisation that, sometimes, reveal its emptiness and the specific attention to the artistic fact that, mostly, ends in sheer descriptive phenomenology. In short, we try to see whether the fact of Aesthetics being under continual suspicion might no be another symptom of the will we define as nihilism.
