Abstract

The performance of activities in open spaces influences the maintenance of socialization during old age and promotes autonomy. It was proposed to analyze the risk probability of personal and health factors (age, body mass index, percentage of fat, physical performance, muscle strength and suffering from some common non-communicable diseases) in the autonomy to perform exercise in open spaces of older independent women of the community. Descriptive-analytical study, the subjects were 120 women over 60 years old. Personal and health data were obtained as a condition of non-communicable diseases, body composition, manual dynamometry and Short Physical Performance Battery. Participants who confirmed they feel capable of physical exercise in the park of their community were considered with autonomy. Descriptive statistics were analyzed to know the characteristics of the population and odds ratio was obtained for the probability of risk. The mean age was 70,07 years (SD= 6,19). The factors that were considered risk for the autonomy of exercise in open spaces were over 80 years, without obesity according to body mass and body fat, suffering from diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and arthritis (OR from 1.08 to 1.40). The factors that resulted in risk for the autonomy of exercising in open spaces are personal factors in which their practice is recommended. This should be considered in order to carry out awareness-raising interventions on the benefits and realization of physical activity in this population group.
