Abstract

This study shows the perspective of 93 teachers of secondary education on the role the school plays in the promotion of sport and physical practices. We have applied a descriptive study of transversal cut, using the “Inventory of Promotion of the Sports and Physical Activity in the School” with 24 items which have adequately discriminated and with high internal consistency. The factorial, descriptive, and inferential analysis shows not only the importance granted to the school as a promoter of sport and physical activity, but also the role Physical Education plays, its reorientation towards the social demand for health and an increase in the number of teaching hours per week in the school and the function of teachers to promote healthy activities. We have also found differences of opinion among teachers both in the gender variable, and in the type of school.
