Inclusive and non-sexist policies

Inclusive and Gender-Related Language

Anales de Psicología / Annals of Psychology recommends that published articles use inclusive and gender-related language that promotes gender equality in science, as promoted by the European Research Area agenda (ERA: period 2022-2024, with action no. 5: "Promoting gender equality and fostering inclusion").

At our journal, we understand that not all texts are equally suitable for adapting certain linguistic formulations to the demands of egalitarian language. We are also aware that promoting equality goes far beyond merely morphological aspects. However, we assume, as stated in the Guide for Bias-Free Language (UAM, 2019), that language has sufficient resources and mechanisms to express what it wants to say, such that "the person producing the message can choose between different forms to express themselves in an inclusive and non-sexist manner, so that language can be an instrument for change" (p. 9).

Gender-Inclusive Policies in Research

Authors are encouraged to include an analysis of sex/gender variables in the various sections of the manuscript, where appropriate.

Reviewers should also take into account the gender perspective, when necessary, when evaluating manuscripts that include a disaggregated analysis by sex and/or gender.
