Proper use of Artificial Intelligence
The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the scientific field has revolutionized the way science is conducted, facilitating and optimizing scientific research. However, there is some concern about its use in the scientific field, especially regarding research integrity, data use, and privacy. Therefore, ethics becomes imperative for creating guidelines for the honest and responsible use of AI.
Anales de Psicología adheres to the recommendations developed by the R4C-IRG Interdisciplinary Research Group: Complex Thinking for All and the Educational Technology Unit of the Institute for the Future of Education (IFE) at the Polytechnic of Monterrey for scientific work and the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)., and DOAJ recommendations.
Based on these recommendations, Anales de Psicología suggests that if AI is to be used in research for which manuscripts are submitted to this journal, the following should be taken into account:
1. Ensure scientific and ethical integrity when using AI in research: AI should be considered an auxiliary tool, not a definitive solution, as it cannot replace academic judgment, intellectual authorship, or ethical responsibility. An AI cannot be an author, as it lacks intention, awareness, and legal responsibility.
2. Conduct a critical analysis of the information generated by AI: It must be reviewed, compared, and validated by the authors. They must ensure the validity and relevance of the results and assume responsibility for their interpretation and application. They must actively work to identify, reduce, and avoid bias in the research.
3. Document the methods and tools used in detail: Clearly specify the authorship and the degree of contribution of AI to the research results. The use of any AI-based tool must be explicitly declared in the cover letter (authorship), indicating the type of tool, its purpose, and the degree of intervention in the results.
4. Ensure the confidentiality of personal data, informed consent, and compliance with global data protection regulations (GDPR – General Data Protection Regulation) throughout the entire process of its use.
5. Stay continuously updated on advances in AI: diversify experimentation with tools and promote their creative and effective use in research. Regular reviews and adaptations of AI regulations are essential to ensure the ongoing alignment of ethical principles with scientific integrity. This policy will be reviewed periodically to responsibly incorporate the technical, regulatory, and editorial developments in AI, a responsibility that must be shared by the entire academic community (researchers, authors, reviewers, editors, and readers).
6. Foster interdisciplinary collaboration to enrich knowledge exchange: leverage the synergy between AI and human knowledge, actively share AI resources relevant to research, and provide training to other researchers on its effective application.
7. Monitor for AI misconduct: the Editorial Board will take reasonable measures to identify and prevent the publication of works in which misconduct has occurred in the use of AI in manuscript preparation.
