Résumé

This article analyzes the linguistic situation in French-speaking Canada. Language is a fundamental instrument of communication and cultural production. But in Quebec, a prominently English-speaking area, this has also been a vindication instrument. The Canadian French-speaking world has been searching for a new identity, neither Canadian, nor French, and this by means of the language. In this article I analyze the linguistic situation in Quebec. I also describe the linguistic features of the French spoken here, as well as the “revolution” induced by the joual.
