Abstract

In 1808 a genius was born: his name was Gérard de Nerval. Breaking away from the mould of the Ancient Régime, he was, ahead of his time, «I is another»: a symbolist poet whose Chimères would become one of the most remarkable and personal voices in 19th century French poetry. The present article aims to assess de Nerval’s genius by analysing the way he was received among Spanish 20th century poets such as Luis Cernuda, Luis Antonio de Villena and Luis Alberto de Cuenca and a French novelist: Florence Delay. What is de Nerval’s mystery in 2008?
