Abstract

One the one hand, communicative language teaching and the action oriented approach promoted by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (2001) emphasize interactions as the most prevalent teaching methods. On the other hand, focus has been made by the European Council in 2006 on eight key competences as fundamental to add value for the labor market, social cohesion and active citizenship. This allows us to rethink the teaching of French for specific purposes as a combination of four of these eight key-competences: communication in the mother tongue, communication in foreign languages, digital competence and learning to learn. These competences are key to meet the new social and educational needs arising from a knowledge-based society. This paper envisions how ICT, in particular portable devices, can be used to deliver specific contents to meet the new needs of nowadays audiences.
