REBELIÓN FÓNICO-ORTOGRÁFICA: MAGDALENA/MADALENA

Authors

  • Francisco Gómez Ortín

Abstract

The author describes a present case of graphic rebelion against the orthographic rules set by Royal Spanish Academy (madalena vs. magdalena). After searching the French origin of this term, the work explains the currently increasing trend of suppressing the g, going back to the vulgar ancestral tendency to eliminate some implosive consonants.
