Abstract

This study examines perceived academic stress among a sample of 278 university students, considering gender and academic discipline as differentiating variables. A quantitative, ex post facto design was employed, using the Academic Stress Questionnaire for University Students (CEAU). The findings reveal a medium-high level of overall stress, with academic obligations and future prospects identified as the most significant sources. Female students reported higher stress levels across all dimensions, with statistically significant differences in academic demands and concerns about their professional future. Moreover, students from the Social Sciences and Law disciplines exhibited higher stress levels than their peers in the Sciences, particularly in relation to academic obligations and interpersonal relationships. The study concludes that academic stress is a multifactorial phenomenon that requires specific institutional interventions aimed at promoting student well-being, with particular attention to gender-sensitive approaches and the distinctive characteristics of each academic field.
