Abstract

The aim of the research is the analysis of the conditions, emotions and feelings associated with retirement age of university teachers. This article describes the case of the University of Deusto that is analyzed through responses to a questionnaire by 81 teachers and active teachers, retirees and emeriti on their professional experience, their assessments of the teaching profession, on the impact on it of the implementation of the European High Education Area (EHEA). It has also been especially asked about their perception and experience of retirement.

The information received through the questionnaire was completed by conducting an in-depth interview seven significant teachers, which include faculty active, retired and emeritus. The results indicate that teachers have willingness to follow linked to the university institution contributing with their knowledge and experience in different functions.

The analysis of this information permits to draw conclusions about the more or less deep transformations undergone by the university during the period covered by the career of these teachers and regarding different areas. These conclusions reflect on proposals for action regarding the retirement of university teachers.
