Reflexiones en torno a las leyes visigodas
Abstract
The Visigoth Law (Lex Visigothorum) consists of a compilation of laws from diverse visigoth monarchs proclaimed by King Recesvintus in 654 AD, and gets further amplifi cation by his successors. We fi nd in this texts a number of laws dealing with a topic inclined to “rhetoric excess”: the marriage between people from different social classes: free and slave, and even freedmen. For instance, the use of the adjective turpis reveals a touch of morality, for it is little used in the Visigoth Law, and if so it is generally for describing actions contrary to honor. Visigoth legislation deserves being looked at as a literary work also.Downloads
