Abstract

This paper introduces a number of testimonies from sophistic philosophy that lead to a philosophy of Rhetoric based on scepticism about the role of language in the metaphysic fi eld and on its consideration as a pragmatic and politic-social instrument which makes certain effects on the receiver and generates social concurrencies.
