Abstract

This article explores the textual transformations of the Cardenio story in England from its appearance in the first English translation of Don Quixote and the writing of the lost Cardenio by Shakespeare and Fletcher to the adaptation of this play by Lewis Theobald in the 18th century, ending up with the Spanish translation of this adaptation.
