ALTERACIONES Y NAUFRAGIOS: UNA HIPÓTESIS PARA LA FECHA DE LOS LOCOS DE VALENCIA DE LOPE DE VEGA
Abstract
Lope de Vega’s Los locos de Valencia has not a sure composition date. However, Morley and Bruerton affirmed that it was written between 1590 and 1595. In the play, we found references to disasters like the loss of a kingdom and a fleet from the Oriental Indies. We think that these references are related to two almost consecutives events: the shipwreck of ‘Nuestra Señora del Rosario’ (end of 1589) and the revolts of Aragón (1590-1591). Based on these internal data, we believe that this comedy was written between May of 1591 and the beginning of the next year.
